President of Syria flees country amid rebel takeover of Damascus

by admin

President Bashar al-Assad has reportedly fled Syria for an unknown destination.

Following a turbulent period of uncertainty, Syrians woke up this morning to the sounds of cheering and celebratory gunfire. It is reported that an Islamist associated rebel group has taken control of the country’s capital of Damascus. To date, a peaceful transition of power is expected. However, Israel has stationed extra military strength in the Golan Heights overlooking Syria, to ensure its security.
