An unknown man assaulted an unnamed woman at the 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue subway station in New York City for a reason he made unmistakably clear.
“You are Jewish,” he reportedly said to the 29-year-old after punching her in the face and then fleeing. The attack was reportedly unprovoked.
The New York City Police Department has released two images of the suspect showing a man with light-brown skin and a beard wearing a dark-green head covering. He also wore a black vest with a green shirt, and in one photo appeared holding his hands up in a surrender posture.
The woman was treated for minor injuries. NYPD’s hate-crimes unit is investigating the incident.
It has not yet been confirmed if the victim actually is Jewish.
